JAMMU: J&K State Karate Championship 2018 Sub Junior, Cadet and Senior began here at Mahajan Hall, Jammu with great enthusiasm.
The Championship is being organized by Amateur Karate Do Association of Jammu & Kashmir (AKAJK) recognized by J&K State Sports Council affiliated to Karate Association of India (KAI) recognized by Govt. of India (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports) member World Karate Federation (WKF) & Asian Karate Do Federation (AKF) recognized by International Olympic Committee (IOC). More than 600 participants from different districts viz Jammu, Rajouri, Kathua, Reasi, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Bandipora, Kupwara, Udhampur, Kargil, Kishtwar, Doda, Shopian, Samba are participating in the tournament.
Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Secretary J&K State Sports Council was the Chief Guest of the Inauguration/ Opening Ceremony of the championship. Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Vice President AKAJK, Sh. Romesh Gupta, President Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, Sh. Ravi Singh, Divisional Sports Officer (DSO), J&K Sate Sports Council, Rahil Gupta, Vice President AKAJK, Advocate Vishal Sharma President Jammu District Karate Association were the other dignitaries present on the occasion.
Shihan Ambedkar Gupta, National Karate Team Coach was a Special Invitee. Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Organizing President of the tournament presented the welcomed address. The Chief Guest declared open the championship. He appreciated the work being done by the association in the field of karate and the outstanding performance of the players in the current year. He also expressed his immense pleasure to see that the players have come to participate in the tournament from all parts of the state. He also appreciated the efforts of Mr. Ambedkar Gupta being made by him to promote karate sports in the state. The outstanding performers of the current year were also felicitated by the Guests. They are as follows:
Ms Azmat Bibi from Rajouri and Mrs. Poonam Salathia from Jammu won bronze medal in their respective categories in 9th Commonwealth Karate Championship, 2018 held at Durban South Africa. Mr. Rajat Singh, Mr. Abhijeet Singh and Mr. Sahil Singh participated in the same event. Earlier this year Ms Esra Bint Kaiser from Srinagar and Irfan Ahmed Naik from Rajouri participated in Thailand Open Karate Championship, 2018 held at Thailand. Also Mr. Devesh Mahajan from Rajouri participated in World Youth Cup tournament 2018 held at Croatia and 9th Commonwealth Karate Championship, 2018 held at Durban South Africa.
Lastly Advocate Vishal Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the tournament presented the vote of thanks.
The events of Sub Junior categories were completed today and the events in Cadet, Junior and Senior will be conducted on 23rd December 2018.
