Srinagar: Shivani Charak, golden sport climber of J&K, has been selected by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, the apex body for mountaineering and sport climbing in India, for representing the country in the forthcoming Asian Youth Championship to be held at Chongqing in China from 1st to 4th November, 2018.
Shivani is among the 11 climbers including 5 boys selected from across the country to participate in various categories of this continental sport climbing competition. She along with Shreya Nanker and Arundhati, both from west zone, represented in the Youth A Girls category.
17 years old Shivani Charak, the youngest sport climber to represent India in the World Cup last year, is also in the line for selection for the Asian Championship to be held at Yoshi in Japan from 7th to 11th November, 2018. Final selection shall, however, be confirmed on the basis of her result in the 2nd IMF All India Sport Climbing (lead & speed) Competition being held at Indore from 24th to 27th October, 2018.
It is pertinent to mention here that participation in these prestigious international competitions is a pre Olympic preparation and good performance in these competitions shall facilitate Shivani’s selection for the Olympic Games to be held in Japan in April, 2020.
Meanwhile, Ram Khajuria & Shawetica Khajuria, General Secretary and Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K have congratulated Shivani on her selection in the Indian team for the Asian Youth Championship. Ashwani Sharma, former MLA and Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman, Team Jammu have also congratulated Shivani for her splendid achievement and assured her all possible help to prepare her for the Olympic Games.
