Kargil United wins B-Division final in Jammu
Srinagar: The matches of the ongoing first Mufti Mohammad Sayeed (MMS) Memorial Football Tournament are going on in full swing at different venues of the state with Lone Star KFC defeating Real Kashmir FC by a solitary goal in a match played at Synthetic Turf TRC in Srinagar on Saturday (April 28).
The match between star studded teams Lone Star KFC and Real Kashmir FC was expected to be a high voltage encounter and it lived upto the expectations of the spectators, who had thronged the venue in huge numbers. Players from both the teams displayed high quality and high speed football enthralling the huge crowd, though only one goal was scored in the entire 90-minutes of the play.
As the match started, forwards of both the teams started attacking each other’s goalpost to seize an early initiative. However, the defence lines of both the teams kept the forwards at bay. The forwards of the two teams looked off colour as they missed several scoring opportunities. The goalkeepers of both the teams made some excellent saves and thus the first half ended goalless.
When it looked the match would end in a goalless draw, Dashyaang Kachru managed to breach the defence lines of Real Kashmir and score all important goal of the match. Trailing by a goal, the Real Kashmir players launched counter attacks, but the defenders of the Lone Star, especially their goalkeeper did not give any chances to the opposite team.
A scintillating kick from Ubaid of Rea Kashmir hit the goal bar and on deflection, Akbi Ahmad’s shot was brilliantly saved by the Lone Star goalkeeper. When the referee blew the final whistle, the score line read 1-0 in favour of Lone Star. Karun Raina was declared as player of the match for his performance and he was awarded a memento and a cash prize of Rs 1000.
Meanwhile, MMSM Football Tournament matches are going on in Jammu as well at different venues. Kargil United defeated All Star FC by two goals to one in the final match of the 2nd phase of the Tournament at GGM Science ground on Saturday. Altaf Hussain and Zahid Ali were the goal scorers for Kargil United, while Sarvar Hussain netted the goal for All Star FC.
Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council Jammu and Advisor Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt of Lakshadweep was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who along with Sheikh Mehmood, President District Football Association (DFA) distributed prizes among the winners on the occasion.
While in Kashmir region, first and the second leg of the event, being organised by the JK Football Association (JKFA) under the auspices of State Sports Council and on the directions of All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The aim of the tournament is to unearth the hidden talent in all corners of the state including remote areas.
